Lake Macquarie continues to see strong investment in public infrastructure, active transport, and community spaces, with a range of civil construction projects underway. These projects not only enhance local amenities but also create opportunities for local businesses such as Ian Rich Asphalt, a trusted provider of asphalt paving services in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Central Coast.
Major Infrastructure and Public Facility Upgrades
The Belmont Wharf replacement project is transforming the foreshore with a modern, accessible wharf designed to encourage aquatic recreation and tourism. Construction began in July 2025 and will continue through 2026.
Nearby, the Awaba House revitalisation is a $6 million redevelopment that will preserve the site’s heritage charm while introducing improved facilities for visitors and dining patrons. Completion is expected by the end of 2025.
At Gateshead, the Harold Knight Sports Complex redevelopment - including Mick Middleton Fields, Fred Wright Field and Harold Knight Oval is improving the playing surfaces and drainage to better serve local sporting clubs. Meanwhile, Deaves Road at Mandalong is set for rehabilitation following storm damage, ensuring safer, more resilient road infrastructure.
Active Transport and Road Rehabilitation
Planning continues for the Charlestown to Whitebridge Active Transport Route, which will introduce a shared path and elevated boardwalk over Flaggy Creek to encourage cycling and walking. Additional road and drainage rehabilitation is scheduled along Kaleen Street and Waran Road and a new High Pedestrian Activity Area in Charlestown will improve accessibility and pedestrian safety around the town centre.
These works demonstrate ongoing investment in asphalt construction across Lake Macquarie, as the council and private contractors continue to deliver smooth, durable, and safe transport networks.
Health, Environmental and Community Projects
The Lake Macquarie Private Hospital expansion will deliver a new hospital tower to increase bed capacity and healthcare services for the region. The Trinity Point Project showcases sustainable design and job creation, while coastal and estuary restoration initiatives aim to protect local ecosystems. Other upgrades include the Catherine Hill Bay Precinct Master Plan and the renewal of Cooranbong Park, featuring new play structures and pathways.
